7 Summertime Festivals in Telluride, Colorado

Summertime is party time in Telluride. Aside from its panorama of peaks, world class ski resort, and picturesque gondola rides, the secluded Colorado mountain town is known for its festivals. Most famous is the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which tends to sell out as soon as tickets go on sale. For those who weren’t fast enough to snag coveted Bluegrass tickets, Telluride’s summer calendar is FULL of festival fun. From yoga and wine to film and fungi, there’s a fest for everyone in Colorado’s favorite little mountain escape

Telluride Wine Festival June 26-2

Winemakers, celebrity chefs, and connoisseurs will come together in Telluride for the 33rd annual Telluride Wine Festival. This year, special events during this four-day Dionysian affair will be free cooking classes for kids, an expert-led seminar on why we like the wines we like, and unique food samples from all over the world.   

Telluride Yoga Festiva July 10-14

Salute the sun at high altitude with high-profile yogis from all over the country. On the schedule for this year are events such as “This End Up” inversions workshop and “Introduction to Acro Yoga.”   

The Ride Festival July 12-13, 2014

This music event is the new kid on the Telluride festival block, sponsored by Telluride’s listener-supported community radio station, KOTO. In its third year, The Ride is bringing heavy-hitting headliners like Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Spoon to the stage.     

Telluride Jazz Festival  August 1-3, 2014

In its 38th iteration, this year’s Telluride Jazz Festival will run the entire gamut of jazz music genre, from classic jazz to old school funk, from spicy Latin to the experimental “superjam.” Headliners this year include Lettuce, Poncho Sanchez, Dragon Smoke and Grupo Fantasma.   

Telluride Mushroom Festival August 15-19

The 33rd Telluride Mushroom Festival celebrates the many facets of fungi. Through a series of expert keynote speakers, fest-goers will learn about the mushroom’s medicinal and culinary prowess. After a “Mycology 101” crash course and other lectures, guided forays into nature to forage fungi will ensue.   

Telluride Film Festival  August 29 - Sept 1

On April 14th, the National FilmPreserve, Ltd. announced its Call for Entries in all categories including student, short and feature-length films. In the 40 Telluride Film Festivals that have preceded this one, the selection of films has never failed to draw cinema geeks from far and wide. The 2014 fest will surely shine with creativity as well. 

Blues and Brews  September 12-14

The lineup is still unannounced for this late-summer music and beer fest, but past headliners have included the likes of The Black Crowes, Melissa Etheridge, Gov’t Mule, and BB King.
